The capital of Chile’s Los Lagos Region is one of the country’s most well-known cities for its natural beauty, surrounded by forests, lakes, volcanoes, and estuaries. It is the starting point of Carretera Austral, which extends for 1,247 km south to Villa O’Higgins and the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.
Today, the municipality has a population of approximately 277,000 inhabitants and an area of 1,673 km2, representing 27% of the population of the Los Lagos Region. Located on the shores of the Reloncaví Sound, with a bay protected by Tenglo Island, Puerto Montt serves as a strategic gateway to Chiloé, Aysén, and Magallanes, thanks to its international airport and El Tepual air base.
In addition, it is the operational base of Skorpios Cruises, hosting its maritime terminal, shipyard, and administrative offices.
