At the end of the Pitt Channel, after passing Chatam Island, we enter Guillard Fjord aboard the MV Skorpios III—a narrow opening between mountains that reveals an imposing landscape of deep greens and snow-capped peaks. We navigate 10 nautical miles before anchoring in the bay, then disembark by excursion boats to a floating pier duly authorised by CONAF, to begin a low-difficulty excursion to Guillard Glacier.
Once ashore, we proceed in single file along a clearly marked trail, surrounded by towering mountains of intense green, their upper reaches crowned with eternal snow and ice. The path leads to a lagoon where we can observe the glacier’s ice mass, its front embedded in the frontal moraine.
Guillard Fjord, oriented from mountain range to sea, is naturally sheltered from Patagonian winds, offering a unique and unaltered setting within Bernardo O’Higgins National Park—a true sanctuary of pristine beauty.
